Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Adults: A Guide

(Excerpt 1)

Can adults have ADHD? Yes! It was once thought that ADHD was a disorder that affected only children. It was believed that as children matured, they "outgrew" their ADHD. We now know that this is often not true. At least one-third and perhaps as many as one-half of those with childhood ADHD continue to experience impairing symptoms as adults. Many people, professionals as well as lay persons, do not realize that ADHD often persists long into adult life even though the DSM-IV explicitly acknowledges this.
